Our History & Our Why
Storytellers' Collective was founded in 2026 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by local writer, actor and director, Devon J. Young. This multimedia production company was established in the hopes that groups of artists from diverse backgrounds could come together in love, respect, and compassion to tell their stories. It is the hope of our founder that we as a collective community can gather on any set, stage, or rehearsal room and elevate and uplift the people we love through the power of narrative. While the stories we share have a specific place and time, we hope the love and passion we share for one another will transcend place and last for all of time. We hope that the power of our stories and the passion with which we tell them will offer healing, hope, and harmony to a world of division, discrimination and discouragement. No matter where you come from, who you love, how you pray, or what language you speak, you will always find a safe place in our stories.
About the Founder
Devon J. Young (She/They) is a Pittsburgh born actor, writer, and director. She discovered her passion for for performance at the age of four after watching the 2006 film, Dreamgirls for the first of many times. From there she began to develop her singing voice and acting ability and would go on to sing, dance, and act in various, talent shows, cabarets, plays, and musicals. They wrote her first ever play at the age of eight while with their friends at an after school program. from there they'd go on to write and direct plays, films, and audio dramas. In her time at her alma mater, Seton Hill University, she continued to pursue her love of theatre in the form of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts. This is how she gained knowledge of every aspect of the film and theatre industry. When they not up late coming up with new ideas, they enjoy reading, singing, photography, and learning more about various kinds of aquatic life. She is very thankful to each and every member of this company for embarking on this journey with her.
